PODCAST EP:14 “ADHD Goal Setting”

Welcome, everyone! Today, I want to talk about something that has had a profound impact on my own development: the importance of having a coach or mentor. As I prepare for an upcoming client project, I couldn't help but reflect on how my work with her has inspired me to delve into this topic. So, let's explore together why having a coach or mentor can be a game-changer and positively transform our lives

It feels like just yesterday when I started this podcast, struggling with audio issues and learning from my mistakes. As time flies by, I appreciate all the support from my listeners who have been with me on this three-month journey. With Thanksgiving approaching, I urge everyone to take a break and spend quality time with loved ones. It is a vital aspect of life that we often overlook.

Recently, I had the opportunity to work with a client on a project in North Carolina. Our discussions revolved around coaching and consulting, which led me to an interesting realization. I haven't had a coach or mentor for several years. While I believe that everyone needs guidance, regardless of their abilities, I haven't sought it for myself.

Having a coach or mentor is crucial for personal and professional growth. They serve as a sounding board, someone you can turn to when you feel lost, confused, or need validation. In my experience as a business coach, I've seen the impact it can have on individuals and their careers. It allows you to navigate challenges, gain new perspectives, and make informed decisions.

When I moved to California, I did have a coach and mentor, but their sudden departure left me in a daunting position. I had to shoulder the responsibility of running events, answering questins, and finding solutions all on my own. While I succeeded, it made me realize the value of having someone to lean on for guidance and support.

One of the primary reasons people hesitate to seek help is ego. We worry that asking for assistance implies weakness or incompetence. However, this mindset is flawed. Even NBA players have coaches who help them improve their performance and mindset. We should embrace the idea that seeking help is a sign of strength and wisdom.

Another obstacle is not knowing where to find the right guidance. Many individuals, whether salon owners or educators, find themselves lost in their search for assistance. It's essential to have a coach or mentor who understands your field and can provide tailored guidance.

While research is valuable, solely relying on it can be time-consuming and overwhelming. Without a coach or mentor, you may find yourself constantly searching for solutions, wasting precious time and energy. It's crucial to strike a balance between research and seeking guidance from experienced individuals who can provide targeted support.

Not having someone to turn to for advice increases the likelihood of giving up. While some individuals possess unwavering determination, many artists and professionals may encounter technology or other challenges that overwhelm them. Having a coach or mentor can provide the encouragement and expertise needed to overcome these obstacles.

As I reflect on my journey and the conversation with my client, I realize the tremendous potential that lies in seeking help. Although I've accomplished a lot without a coach or mentor, I can't help but wonder what more I could achieve with their guidance. Similarly, I encourage all my listeners to consider the value of having a coach or mentor in their lives. It's not a sign of weakness but a pathway to growth and success.
