PODCAST EP:16 “Which Handtied Extension Method is Best?”

Which Handtied Extension Method is Best?

Introduction:

As a seasoned hairstylist with over a decade of experience in the hair industry, I have had the privilege of working with various hair extension methods and witnessing firsthand the transformative power they hold. In this review, I aim to share my insights and knowledge about three highly sought-after hair extension methods: Natural Beaded Rows (NBR), Mane Luxe, and The Luna Method. Drawing from my personal experiences, conversations with fellow stylists, and thorough research, I will explore and compare these methods based on pricing, education, support, and overall experience.

1.  NBR (Natural Beaded Rows):

Difficulty in Learning: 9/10

Potential for damage: 9/10

Severity of damage:   8/10

Pricing:

As of February 23, NBR offers two pricing options: a virtual option priced at $1,000 (with limited access) or a comprehensive support package priced at $15,000.

Education:

NBR's education program starts off with 3 virtual days of pre-training and a certificate of completion upon finishing. The program focuses on ensuring stylists gain a solid understanding of the technique, and go over very basics of business. Feedback is given in the form of photos and text, no audio or videos. Failing is next to impossible (assuming you’re trying) because of how fucking difficult the method is.  Now once the event is over there is NO SUPPORT, and you are cut off from the training. Some stylists have expressed the need for more comprehensive support post-training (which will be covered in the next section).

Support:

While NBR's initial training is praised for its thoroughness, there have been mixed reviews regarding ongoing support. Unless stylists opt for the pricier package ($15,000), the level of assistance might be limited. This can leave some stylists feeling ill-prepared when facing unique challenges or encountering specific client needs.

Overall Experience:

Opinions among stylists who have tried NBR vary. While some feel adequately prepared and satisfied with the results, others have mentioned feeling slightly let down by the level of support received. It is crucial for stylists to thoroughly assess their personal needs and determine whether the pricing and support options align with their expectations before investing in this method.

2.  Mane Luxe:

Difficulty in Learning: 5/10

Potential for damage: 5/10

Severity of damage:   4/10

Pricing:

Mane Luxe's pre-training program comes at a more affordable price point, priced at $2,500. Advanced training is available for $2,500. For stylists looking for a budget-friendly option, Mane Luxe presents an attractive choice.

Education:

The program places a strong emphasis on mastering the method's intricate techniques. Stylists appreciate the comprehensive approach, ensuring they gain a deep understanding of the process. This includes 30 days of pre-training with three phases and certification upon completing four models, which also moves you onto phase two. The feedback you receive comes in the form of photos, text, and video depending on what is needed.  One big distinction is that feedback is provided by THE OWNER yes, that’s right the owner provides the feedback from the training.

Support:

Although specific details about post-training support are not explicitly mentioned, stylists who have undergone the Mane Luxe training program generally express satisfaction with the level of support and guidance provided. The team at Mane Luxe is known for being accessible and responsive to stylists' questions and concerns.

Overall Experience:

Stylists who have experienced the Mane Luxe method report positive experiences, feeling well-prepared and supported throughout their journey. The affordability combined with quality education makes Mane Luxe an enticing option for stylists seeking to expand their skill set without the higher price tag.

3.  The Luna Method:

Difficulty in Learning: 5/10

Potential for damage: 4/10

Severity of damage:   3/10

Pricing:

The Luna Method's training program is priced at $5,500, which includes hotel accommodations during the event. Additional training and refresher courses are available for $5,500. While it may appear more expensive than the previous two methods, it offers additional benefits that contribute to the overall experience.

Education:

The Luna Method stands out for its detailed and clear education program. It caters to different learning styles, ensuring that stylists grasp the concepts effectively. What sets The Luna Method apart is its commitment to creating a calm and supportive environment, particularly for neuro

divergent individuals. The pre-training is mandatory, 3 days, with the hotel, team dinner, and cocktail hour provided.  To be certified you must complete 2 models with an 80% or higher. Yup that’s right 80% not 100%.

Support:

The Luna Method excels in providing ongoing support to stylists. Beyond the initial training, stylists receive continuous assistance and mentorship for twelve months, allowing them to navigate challenges confidently.  While learning the Luna Method I receive the most intricate feedback I have ever received in my whole fucking life. The level of detail you get is just unmatched. I want to be told absolutely everything and with Luna you get that level of feedback, which is provided in the form of photos, text, audio and video if you need it. You also get access to their group chat for 6 months. Like Mane Luxe, it’s provided by the owner which shows a level of pride in their work and that they believe in what they are doing.

Overall Experience:

Stylists who have undergone The Luna Method training rave about the comprehensive education, exceptional support, and positive overall experience. While the initial investment might be higher, the additional support and inclusivity make it a preferred choice for many stylists.

Conclusion:

When it comes to choosing a hair extension method, it's crucial to consider various factors such as pricing, education, and ongoing support. Each method reviewed here offers its unique strengths and considerations. NBR, Mane Luxe, and The Luna Method all have their merits, catering to different stylist preferences and budgets. However, The Luna Method stands out for its exceptional education, inclusive approach, and ongoing support, making it a top recommendation.

Ultimately, as a hairstylist, it's vital to evaluate your specific needs, reach out to method providers, and make an informed decision that aligns with your career goals and aspirations. Remember, continuous education and staying updated on industry trends will contribute to your growth and success as a hairstylist.
