PODCAST EP:21 “Lay-off to Lift off: What Happens After You’re Fired!”
Welcome back to another episode of COACH ANI: The Podcast!
A year ago, I embarked on a new chapter in my life. The anniversary of starting my own company just passed, and it's been a whirlwind of emotions. Before this venture, I was employed like most people. But a surprise "team meeting" turned out to be a pivotal moment in my life. I was let go, with reasons that seemed… vague. The shock of it all was overwhelming, especially when I realized I was now without a steady income.
The aftermath of being fired wasn't just about finding a new job or source of income. It was also about healing and understanding myself better. A few months post the incident, I decided to see a therapist. Not because of depression but because I felt certain emotions that I couldn't quite place. My therapist diagnosed me with PTSD. It was a revelation. Accepting and understanding this diagnosis was a journey in itself, but it also opened doors to personal growth and self-awareness.
One of my most significant realizations was that I had been limiting myself based on others' expectations and traditional norms. Why should I follow the "usual" way of doing things? Why not carve my own path? This mindset led to the birth of my consulting company, where I aimed to address the gaps I saw in the industry. I wanted to help artists find their voice, monetize their skills, and navigate the often overwhelming world of social media.
Another revelation was understanding my neurodiversity. Discovering that I am ADHD and autistic was initially a shock. But over time, I realized that these labels didn't define me. Instead, they provided a framework for understanding how my brain works. It explained my quirks, my unique way of processing information, and my approach to tasks. Embracing this aspect of myself has been empowering.
Today, I stand at the helm of not one but two businesses. And I'm even contemplating a third! Each venture is a testament to my belief in doing things differently and in challenging the status quo. Whether it's how I approach business, my work schedule, or even how I interact with the world, I've learned to trust my instincts and embrace my unique perspective.
To everyone reading this, remember that life's unexpected turns can lead to beautiful destinations, no matter how jarring. It's about resilience, self-belief, and the willingness to grow. Whether you're neurotypical or neurodivergent, your journey is valid, and your potential is limitless.
